This 28-unit mixed-use building sports a 4-storey wood and concrete frame over one level of underground parking. Commercial retail space occupies the main level along Jutland Road, with residential units along Jackladder Lane and the three floors above. Also located here along Jutland Road at ground level, the D'Ambrosio Architecture + Urbanism office and the studio/gallery of artist Bill Porteous are USGBC LEED Gold certified. The South Circle building was recognized by the Canadian Wood Council in 2005, receiving the BC Wood Design award for its structure and cladding, and was awarded the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada’s medal for urban architecture in 2006.
D'Ambrosio architecture + urbanism took top honour in the Urban Architecture category for the 2006 National Urban Design Awards. Sponsored by Architecture Canada/RAIC, the Canadian Institute of Planners, and the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects, these annual awards highlight outstanding architecture and urban design projects across Canada while recognizing individuals, organizations, firms and projects that have contributed to the sustainability and quality of life in Canadian cities.
