A comprehensive urban plan for the downtown of Nanaimo, a waterfront city of approximately 79 000 inhabitants. Using figure ground drawings, street sections, sketches, renderings, and 3D models, DAU produced an urban design manual for Nanaimo's Planning Department to distribute to prospective developers. The driving concepts were extensive infill development, road right-of-way redevelopment, integration of open space and circulation networks, mixed land use, increased density, and the repair and augmentation of the 19th century town plan.
