CAPITAL CULTURE DISTRICT
Urban Redevelopment Urban Design Plan
This Comprehensive Urban Design Plan repurposes a 7-acre former industrial block, south of Rock Bay as the heart of an emerging Arts and Innovation District envisioned by the City in its Victoria 3.0 planning initiative. The site is bounded by Store, Chatham, Government, and Discovery Streets and includes 3 heritage buildings. The redeveloped block will include space for light industrial, technology, commercial, marine, as well as arts and cultural uses. Importantly it will reinstate long dormant marine access to the City's Upper Harbour. Notably, the proposed Community Amenity Contribution offered includes a prominent site for a downtown location for the Gallery of Greater Victoria (AGGV), a Public Plaza and a concourse to the harbourfront. This public space is part of a site-wide network that connects the Harbour Pathway with the upland city.
