PROJECT ALBERO

Albero Galleggiante (Floating Tree), Selkirk Waters, Victoria BC

Instigated by Aryze Projects and inspired by Scandinavian urban harbour swimming facilities, this pro-bono project was designed to promote and be a catalyst for the rediscovery and reclaiming of urban harbour waters for swimming and recreation.  The floating platform with its whimsical tree, was secretly towed into place under cover of night, to the beachfront of a little-used city park. It was quickly discovered by children and adults and has become a destination for swimmers, kayakers and community groups. The platform was donated to the City which allowed it to remain despite not having granted permits initially.
